HYBRID, SAFETY AND STYLE HEADLINE ALL-NEW COROLLA SEDAN

** Hybrid powertrain offered for the first time in Corolla sedan in Australia **
** Corolla sedan shares powertrain, pricing, safety and features with Corolla hatch **
** All-new TNGA platform delivers dynamic driving characteristics **

Toyota's stylish all-new Corolla sedan offers a vast improvement in driving dynamics, performance, safety, refinement and features including the introduction of a new hybrid powertrain option for the first time in Australia.

The new Corolla sedan shares many of its features, powertrains, new TNGA platform and extensive suite of Toyota Safety Sense features with the all-new Corolla hatch launched in August last year, along with the same pricing levels for each grade.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley, said with the introduction of the all-new Corolla sedan, Toyota was offering both the hatch and sedan with the same level of features to give customers a clearer choice of body style without any compromises.

"With pricing, powertrains and grades now aligned across both body styles, customers can simply choose between the Corolla hatch or sedan depending on their lifestyle needs, without sacrificing any features," Mr Hanley said.

"Toyota has developed this all-new Corolla sedan to perfectly complement the hatch with the same levels of sophisticated styling, refinement, dynamic driving characteristics, performance and five-star ANCAP safety rating.

"Just like the Corolla hatch, the sedan is a significant step up from its predecessor in every aspect, providing customers with high levels of driving enjoyment, advanced technology, safety, refinement and comfort in a four-door configuration," he said.

The Ascent Sport is available with either the petrol-electric hybrid powertrain mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a new 2.0-litre petrol engine with a choice of CVT or six-speed manual gearbox.

Stepping up into the SX, again there is a choice of petrol or hybrid power with CVT only, while the top-of-the-range Corolla ZR sedan is offered in a single petrol-powered model with a standard CVT.

The new petrol-electric hybrid powertrain uses the same 1.8-litre petrol engine combined with a pair of electric motor generators as its hatch sibling, providing a total maximum power output of 90kW.

But thanks to low rolling resistance tyres and its aerodynamic shape, it delivers the second lowest fuel consumption of any model in the entire Toyota lineup with a combined cycle fuel consumption of just 3.5l/100km2.

Petrol variants use a new 125kW/200Nm 2.0-litre engine that delivers the optimum balance between performance and economy.

Complementing the new powertrains is an all-new chassis based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform with heavily revised front MacPherson strut and new multi-link rear suspension to provide stable, agile handling and superb ride comfort.

Inside, the refined style matches that of the exterior with a spacious airy cabin featuring all new seats, standard climate control (manual air conditioning for Ascent Sport petrol variant), and the latest generation multimedia system with Apple CarPlay®3 and Android Auto™4 compatibility.

All hybrid versions gain keyless smart entry and start while the mid-range SX also includes satellite navigation5 with SUNA™ live traffic alerts6, a wireless phone charger7 and premium three-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters (petrol only) for the "10-speed" sequential shift CVT.

Befitting its range-topping status, the ZR with its sporty 18-inch alloy wheels, gains  heated synthetic leather-accented sports front seats with power adjustment for the driver, an electric tilt and slide moonroof, and premium nine-speaker JBL®8 audio system.

All variants across the range feature a comprehensive suite of Toyota Safety Sense driver assistance features including autonomous emergency braking (AEB) provided by the pre-collision safety system (PCS), active cruise control, lane trace assist (CVT-only), lane departure warning (manual gearbox), road sign assist and auto high beam.

Added to that are reversing camera and seven airbags, with SX variants gaining blind spot monitor and ZR also featuring head-up display as standard.

Like all Toyota vehicles, the new Corolla sedan is covered by a full five-year Toyota Warranty Advantage9 while Toyota Service Advantage10 offers capped price servicing that costs just $175 per service with 12-month/15,000km intervals.

COROLLA SEDAN DELIVERS STYLE, COMFORT AND PREMIUM FEATURES

** Stylish new design offers roomy, comfortable and refined interior **
** Latest generation multimedia system with Apple CarPlay®1 and Android Auto™2 **
** Large boot with 470-litre capacity and 60/40-split rear seat back **

Toyota has introduced a new sense of dynamic excitement into the small sedan market with the launch of the all-new Corolla sedan.

Sharing its styling DNA with the new Corolla hatch launched in August last year, it eschews the conservative aesthetic of the past and delivers an agile, athletic look that reflects its new-found driving characteristics.

Clearly a member of the new generation Corolla family, the new sedan delivers a bold front end with a wide stance accentuated by its large trapezoidal grille, arrow-shaped, swept-back LED headlights incorporating daytime running lights.

In side profile, the low centre of gravity, gently rising beltline and sharply raked rear screen give the all-new Corolla sedan a sleek and dynamic silhouette. This is further aided by flared wheelarches surrounding the stylish 15-inch (hybrid) 16-inch (SX and Ascent Sport petrol) and 18-inch (ZR petrol) alloy wheels.

The new Corolla sedan’s rear styling is as strong as the front with slim, integrated LED taillights punctuating the outer edges of the bootlid and the tapered rear bumper delivering a solid, planted stance.

With an overall length of 4630mm and width of 1780mm3, the new Corolla sedan is slightly longer (10mm) and wider (5mm) than the previous generation sedan.

But with its 25mm lower roofline (1435mm), shorter (-5mm) front overhang and longer (+15mm) rear overhang, it delivers an entirely new dynamic appearance, whether on the move or standing still.

This new stylish aesthetic is complemented by a choice of nine solid, pearl, metallic and mica colours4 headlined by new Celestite Grey and Volcanic Red metallic options. These join Crystal Pearl, Glacier White, Silver Pearl, black mica Ink, red Wildfire and Lunar Blue mica metallic, and mica Saturn Blue colour options.

Inside, the design of the new Corolla sedan delivers the same refined athleticism as the exterior with a stylish look enhanced with premium materials and finishes.

A thin, sweeping dash with a large central 8-inch touchscreen display sitting atop the air conditioning controls provides an open and airy ambience for the driver and front passenger while still ensuring all essential controls fall easily to hand.

The new Corolla sedan features two different styles of instrument cluster that both offer easy viewing and access to essential driving information.

Ascent Sport petrol and hybrid and SX petrol variants feature a large central analogue-style speedometer flanked by a tacho on the left and 4.2-inch Multi-Info Display (MID) on the right.

The top-of-the-range ZR petrol and mid-range SX hybrid variants combine a large central 7-inch MID with tacho and fuel/temperature gauges on either side with the option of an analogue style or digital speedo display.

The new three-spoke steering wheel features fingertip controls for all audio, phone, vehicle and cruise control settings with SX petrol and ZR versions gaining paddle shifters for the continuously variable transmission (CVT).

All the seats in the new Corolla sedan have been completely redesigned for improved comfort and support with both front and rear seat occupants sitting lower in the vehicle.

In addition to new cushioning materials and structural changes, the seats also feature new upholstery with an embossed fabric for the Ascent Sport and SX variants.

Corolla ZR sedan versions use a synthetic leather combined with Rezatec™5 inserts – a woven fabric with a leather-like texture – for the sports seats with eight-way power adjustment including lumbar support for the driver’s seat.

As a premium small sedan, the new Corolla is well equipped for comfort and convenience.

All variants bar the Ascent Sport petrol version feature climate control to provide the optimum temperature. The SX and ZR variants also gain a wireless phone charger6 while keyless smart entry and start is standard on all hybrid, SX and ZR variants.

The range-topping ZR variant offers an even higher level of comfort and functionality with an electrochromatic rear view mirror, ambient lighting and an electric tilt and slide moonroof added to the standard equipment.

All variants of the new Corolla sedan feature a new generation multimedia system with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto compatibility, AM/FM radio, USB and Aux inputs, full Bluetooth®7 connectivity, voice recognition, Siri®8 eyes-free functionality and MyToyota app.

A number of functions have been improved with voice recognition now offering a broader range of commands along with video playback via USB when the vehicle is stationary.

The mid-range SX model’s multimedia system also gains satellite navigation9 with SUNA™10 live traffic alerts, digital radio11 and an enhanced screen interface that enables pinch, swipe and flick gestures.

Both Ascent Sport and SX models combine six speakers for a high quality audio experience while the Corolla ZR sedan features a premium nine-speaker JBL®5 audio system.

In addition to the roomy passenger space, the new Corolla sedan also features an array of storage options with large door bins to take an A4 folder and 720ml bottle while the rear door bottle holders can accommodate a 500ml bottle.

There is also a glove box, lidded centre console storage, front and rear cupholders and assorted trays. The rear boot space is also expansive with a 470-litre capacity that can be further extended with a 60/40-split rear seat back.

COROLLA SEDAN DELIVERS DYNAMIC HANDLING, IMPROVED PERFORMANCE AND SAFETY FEATURES

** Hybrid powertrain offers a low 3.5l/100km1 combined cycle fuel consumption **
** New TNGA platform delivers improved ride comfort and dynamic handling **
** New 125kW 2.0-litre petrol engine available on Ascent Sport, SX and ZR grades **

The Corolla sedan delivers a new-found dynamic ability and refined ride comfort with the all-new model sharing the same Toyota New Global Architecture with the Corolla hatch.

Sitting on a slightly longer, 2700mm, wheelbase than the Corolla hatch with front and rear tracks of 1530mm and 1535mm respectively2, the new underpinnings offer a wide, stable platform complemented by new suspension and electronic controls including active cornering assist.

At the front, the MacPherson strut suspension has been substantially upgraded with new geometry and components, while the rear features an all-new multi-link system designed to offer excellent handling, stability and ride comfort and still enable a large capacity boot.

Complementing the new chassis architecture and providing plenty of refined performance are two new powertrains with the Corolla sedan offered with a petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain for the first time in Australia.

Available on the entry level Ascent Sport and mid-level SX grades, the new hybrid powertrain uses a 1.8-litre petrol engine combined with a pair of electric motor generators to drive the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The 16-valve, DOHC 1.8-litre petrol engine generates a maximum power of 72kW at 5200rpm and peak torque of 142Nm at 3600rpm with the entire hybrid system providing a maximum power output of 90kW.

The combined efforts of both petrol and electric drive ensures the new Corolla hybrid sedans are very efficient with a combined cycle fuel consumption of just 3.5l/100km1 and low CO2 emissions of 81g/km3.

The hybrid system, that drives through a smooth and efficient CVT offers electric-only drive, activated by the EV mode switch on the centre console, or combined petrol and electric drive and electricity generation to recharge the battery that is automatically activated according to driving conditions.

In addition to the petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, the new model is also offered with a new 2.0-litre petrol engine on all three grades.

Shared with the Corolla hatch, this engine generates a maximum power of 125KW at 6600rpm and peak torque of 200Nm between 4400rpm and 4800rpm – a substantial increase of 22kW and 27Nm compared with its 1.8-litre predecessor.

At the same time, the improved efficiency of the engine and direct and port fuel injection means it offers a lower combined cycle fuel consumption of 6.0l/100km1 when combined with the CVT, or 6.5l/100km1 mated to the manual gearbox offered in the entry-level Ascent Sport grade.

CO2 emissions are 137g/km3 and 151g/km3 for the CVT and manual variants respectively.

The new CVT, that is available on the Ascent Sport model and standard for SX and ZR grades, is a smooth and refined unit that offers a sport mode for more responsive performance.

It also features a “10-speed” sequential shift operation that can be activated via the shift lever or paddle shifters for the SX and ZR variants.

The six-speed manual gearbox offered on the Ascent Sport allows for a fast, efficient response with an “intelligent” function activated by a switch on the centre console that enables rev-matching for up and down shifts.

The steering in the new Corolla sedan provides a responsive action and quality feel and feedback with electric power assistance for the rack and pinion system.

Superb braking performance is provided by 283mm (hybrid - 255mm) ventilated front and 265mm solid rear discs with a full complement of electronic assistance features including ABS, vehicle stability control, traction control, brake assist and trailer sway control.

Toyota has also substantially improved safety in the new Corolla sedan, ensuring a five-star ANCAP safety rating, with a comprehensive suite of Toyota Safety Sense4 driver assistance features standard across the entire range.

For CVT-equipped models, this includes pre-collision safety system (PCS) with day and nighttime pedestrian and daytime cyclist detection, all-speed active cruise control, lane trace assist with steering assist and lane centring function, road sign assist and auto high-beam.

The manual Ascent Sport offers a high-speed active cruise control – operating at speeds above approximately 30km/h – and a lane departure warning with steering assist.

All grades also benefit from a reversing camera, seven airbags (dual front, front side, side curtain and driver kneebag) and ISOFIX child safety seat anchor points on the rear seat outboard positions.

The new Corolla SX and ZR sedan variants gain a blind spot monitor with the ZR version also featuring a head-up display to display essential information on the windscreen for clear visibility.
