ALL-NEW YARIS CROSS DELIVERS ON STYLE, PERFORMANCE AND FUNCTIONALITY

**First-in-class hybrid powertrain and advanced safety features for all-new Yaris Cross**
**Nine variants with choice of petrol and hybrid, 2WD and AWD and GX, GXL and Urban grades**
**Stylish, functional and versatile SUV with superb driving dynamics and ride comfort**

Toyota has launched its all-new Yaris Cross that builds on a rich SUV heritage to deliver a stylish compact package designed to meet the lifestyle needs of active urban dwellers.

As Toyota's first entry in the light SUV market, the Yaris Cross doesn't compromise when it comes to style or city-suitability and still delivers all the safety, versatility, functionality and capability of a larger SUV.

The Yaris Cross - the second member in the all-new Yaris family - offers a game-changing presence with its class-leading safety features, hybrid drivetrain, advanced electric AWD system and a premium, flexible interior.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley said the new Yaris Cross provides the perfect blend of small-car style and SUV functionality and capability.

"Toyota was a pioneer in the small SUV market when we launched the original RAV4 in 1994. RAV4 is now the world's best-selling SUV and we expect the all-new Yaris Cross is set to make as big an impact on the light SUV market in years to come," Mr Hanley said.

"Set to appeal to metro-living, country exploring, active urban dwellers, it delivers all the style, advanced technology, safety and a very fuel-efficient hybrid drivetrain demanded for the weekly commute.

"Complementing that is a highly versatile and premium interior, AWD availability for when the tarmac runs out, dynamic driving characteristics and comfortable raised ride height, making it the ideal small SUV, wherever your journey takes you," he said.

The Yaris Cross is available in nine variants with a choice of new petrol or hybrid powertrains, 2WD (front) or electric AWD, and three grades - entry-level GX, mid-range GXL and top-of-the-range Urban.

First-in-class Hybrid, and new petrol powertrains

Under the bonnet is a choice of two new 1.5-litre petrol and hybrid powertrains it shares with the all-new Yaris hatch.

The hybrid system for 2WD versions combines a 67kW/120Nm, 1.5-litre three-cylinder, Atkinson Cycle petrol engine with a pair of motor generators that produces a maximum combined output of 85kW.

Driving the front wheels through a smooth and efficient continuously variable transmission (CVT), it seamlessly shifts between petrol and electric power to deliver the optimum balance of performance and supremely good fuel economy with a combined cycle fuel consumption of just 3.8l/100km1. CO2 emissions are a correspondingly low 86g/km2.

AWD hybrid models gain a third electric motor generator to drive the rear wheels in slippery or off-tarmac conditions when maximum traction is called for.

The system operates automatically to split drive torque between the front and rear wheels according to road conditions from 100 per cent drive through the front wheels to 40 per cent to the front and 60 per cent to the rear.

The AWD system also offers a Trail Mode to further improve off-tarmac capability, with the system automatically braking a slipping or freely rotating wheel to ensure drive torque is directed to the wheels with the most traction at all times.

The total system generates the same maximum combined output of 85kW as the 2WD hybrid models, with a marginal increase in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions due to the extra weight of the vehicle. Despite the extra mass, it is still very fuel efficient, consuming a low 4.0l/100km1 and emitting only 90g/km2 of CO2 on the combined cycle.

The 2WD Yaris Cross is also offered with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 88kW and peak torque of 145Nm that drives the front wheels through a Direct Shift CVT.

The Direct Shift CVT features a mechanical first gear for strong off the line performance and a 10-speed manual sequential shift function that can be activated by either the shift lever, or paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

While the new Yaris Cross is built on the same GA-B Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform as the Yaris hatch, it sits on a 10mm longer wheelbase and 35mm-45mm wider track to provide a broad, stable platform for all driving conditions and surfaces.

Ground clearance3 has also been increased by 20mm to 170mm to provide the ride height and underbody clearance demanded by SUV buyers.

All 2WD models share a front MacPherson strut and rear torsion beam suspension to provide the perfect balance of stability, dynamic driving characteristics, ride comfort and maximum luggage capacity.

Catering to off-tarmac conditions and to accommodate the AWD system, AWD models use a 2-link multi-link rear suspension to deliver superb handling, comfort and responsiveness in all road conditions.

Electrically-assisted rack and pinion steering and a small diameter steering wheel ensure quick, responsive control while braking performance is provided by ventilated front and solid rear discs, assisted by an array of electronic aids including Vehicle Stability Control, Active Cornering Assist, Secondary Collision Brake and Cross-Wind Assist4.

Class-leading safety features

Providing high levels of safety features has been a priority in the development of the Yaris Cross and it features the latest generation Toyota Safety Sense4 suite of driver assistance technologies.

These include Pre-Collision Safety (PCS) system with day/night pedestrian and day cyclist detection and Emergency Steering Assist, Lane Trace Assist and Lane Departure Alert with steering assist, daytime Intersection Turn Assist, Auto High Beam, Road Sign Assist and adaptive cruise control.

A rear view camera with guide lines, and eight airbags including first-in-class front centre airbags to help reduce potential injuries caused by contact between the front passenger and driver, are also standard on every model.

The new Yaris Cross is also the first Toyota model offered with Toyota Connected Services5 employing a Data Communication Module (DCM) that is able to automatically generate an SOS emergency call6 to a 24/7 Toyota Emergency Call Centre and relay the location of the vehicle in the event of a collision that requires intervention, or if an airbag deploys.

The driver is also able to request emergency assistance via an SOS button7 on the overhead console and if the vehicle is reported stolen, Toyota Connected Services can assist authorities to help track the vehicle's location via the Stolen Vehicle Tracking (SVT) service8.

The mid-range GXL and range-topping Urban grades gain front and rear parking sensors, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, a panoramic view monitor and Parking Support Brake. Urban grades also offer Head-Up Display to further enhance the extensive safety features on the Yaris Cross4.

Premium style, practicality and features

While the platform of the Yaris Cross is only slightly longer and wider than that of the Yaris hatch, it features a substantially longer, wider and taller body to provide maximum interior space, versatility and functionality.

Measuring 4180mm in length with a width of 1765mm and height of 1590mm, it is 240mm longer, 70mm wider and 85mm taller than the Yaris hatch.

The Yaris Cross is available in a colour9 choice of eight metallic, mica-metallic and crystal pearl finishes with Urban grades offered with two-tone colourways with a black or gold roof, mirrors and rocker mouldings.

Inside, the larger body translates into a light, airy space with a premium ambience for five occupants and plenty of luggage with all controls designed to optimise ergonomics.

Up front is a digital instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch Multi Information Display and small leather wrapped steering wheel with fingertip controls for audio, phone, cruise control and vehicle settings.

A large 7-inch touchscreen display sits atop the centre console offering convenient and easy-to-read controls and information for the latest generation multimedia system.

The system features AM/FM/DAB+10 radio, full Bluetooth®11 connectivity, Apple CarPlay®12 and Android Auto™13 compatibility, and enhanced voice activation and delivers high quality audio reproduction through six speakers.

GXL and Urban grades also combine satellite navigation14 into the system while all models feature USB and 12V DC power outlets.

Below the screen are controls for the single-zone automatic climate control to provide the perfect cabin temperature, regardless of outside conditions.

For GX and GXL versions, the comfortable and supportive seats are upholstered in a quality fabric with varying shades of grey materials for the seats, door trims and soft-touch dash.

Urban variants feature a tweed-like fabric and dark brown artificial leather accents for the seat upholstery, power adjustable driver seat, and front seat heating, providing even greater style, comfort and convenience.

Designed for maximum flexibility, the Yaris Cross features a 40/20/40-split rear seat with each individual section able to be folded flat to increase the rear luggage space.

A dual level 60/40-split deckboard in the luggage space for 2WD models provides maximum versatility and a large 390-litre capacity when it is in the lower position.

In the high position and for AWD models, the rear luggage space has a capacity of 314 litres with the rear seat backs in place.

Access to the rear is through a large opening hatchback with Urban grades featuring a power tailgate with a kick sensor for hands-free opening when carrying shopping or other items.

For further storage, the cabin features large front door bins able to hold 1.5-litre bottles, rear door bins that can take 600ml bottles, a 5.7-litre glovebox and an array of small storage cubbies.

Under the Toyota Warranty Advantage program, the Yaris Cross is covered by a five-year warranty15, seven years for engine and driveline16, and up to 10-year warranty on the hybrid battery17 with capped price servicing for the first five services at $205 each18.

ALL-NEW YARIS CROSS COMBINES THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

As Toyota's newest SUV, the Yaris Cross has been designed with the proportions and style to make it perfectly at home in the city with the functionality and versatility demanded for an active lifestyle.

Toyota's first entry into the light SUV market shares its distinctive, powerful styling with the recently launched Yaris hatch, delivering a compact and dynamic aesthetic.

With an overall length of 4180mm, width of 1765mm and height of 1590mm, the Yaris Cross is 240mm longer, 70mm wider and 85mm taller than the Yaris hatch ensuring it offers maximum interior space and the higher riding viewpoint that is demanded in an SUV.

At the front, a bold face featuring a split grille with a lower diffuser, flanked by deep-set LED daytime running lights and slimline headlight clusters, give the Yaris Cross a purposeful, sculpted appearance.

The extended wheel arches sitting over 16-inch alloys - 18-inch for Urban grades - ensure a solidly planted stance. In side profile, the slightly rising beltline and sharply raked front and rear glass showcase the Yaris Cross as an agile and functional small SUV.

Likewise, at the rear, the broad horizontal lines connecting the integrated taillights and squared-off rear hatch suggest a robust and practical attitude.

A palette of eight colours1 including a new Tuscan Gold, Crystal Pearl, Stunning Silver, Ink black, Atomic Rush red, Latte, Mineral Blue and Lunar Blue ensure the Yaris Cross is a stylish standout on the road.

The top-of-the-range Urban variants are also available with two-tone colourways with a black roof, mirrors and rocker moulding or, to complement the Ink black body, a gold roof, mirrors and rocker moulding.

Inside, the premium stylish aesthetic continues with high quality soft touch materials and trim with a strong design optimised for ergonomics.

The slim, wide, dual-level dash provides an open spacious ambience and clear visibility of all controls and instruments.

A digital instrument cluster features circular displays for the tacho and fuel/speed/coolant levels sitting either side of a 4.2-inch multi information display (MID) that provides relevant economy, safety system, audio, vehicle and navigation information for the driver.

The three-spoke leather-accented steering wheel also offers finger-tip controls for various audio, phone, cruise control and MID functions ensuring the driver never needs to take their hands off the wheel. Petrol variants also feature paddle shifters to enable quick, safe shifts for the CVT transmission in manual mode.

Many of the information functions are mirrored on the large 7-inch touchscreen that sits atop the centre console, integrated with the latest generation multimedia system.

The system delivers an array of information and entertainment options including AM/FM/DAB+2 radio, full Bluetooth®3 connectivity, Apple CarPlay®4 and Android Auto™5 compatibility, myToyota apps including Waze® and Stitcher™ for IOS products and WebEx™ for Android products6, and enhanced, localised voice recognition.

GXL and Urban grades also gain satellite navigation7 while all variants feature USB and 12V DC power sockets located in the centre stack.

The cabin has been designed as a light, airy space with a premium finish and this is reflected in seat and trim materials and design.

For GX and GXL grades, the door trims and comfortable and supportive seats are finished with a combination of different hues of dark grey textured fabrics.

Urban variants use a high-quality tweed-like fabric matched to dark brown artificial leather accents to deliver an even more stylish and refined ambience, while power operation for the driver seat and heated front seats add comfort and convenience.

The three-position 40/20/40-split rear seat has been designed for optimum flexibility with the seat backs able to fold flat to increase the rear luggage space.

ISOFIX child safety seat anchors and top tethers are built into the outboard positions.

As an SUV designed for getting away from it all, the Yaris Cross features an abundance of storage facilities with up to 390-litre cargo space in the rear, when the deck board is placed in its lower position.

The lower part of the dash and centre console enhances the SUV's functionality with a 5.7l glovebox and large 0.8l oddments tray above the centre console.

Lower on the centre console below the climate control switchgear is another storage cubby with an additional small box at the rear of the centre console, behind the two cupholders.
Large door bins in the front can accommodate 1.5l bottles while rear door pockets can store a 600ml bottle.

At the rear, the flexible luggage space offers a 60/40-split two-level deckboard for 2WD models to provide either a flat floor space when the rear seat back is folded, or additional luggage capacity when it is lowered by 118mm, giving a 390L capacity in the lower position and 314L in the upper position.

A lightweight tonneau cover that clips into the top of the rear seat back is also standard and can be folded into a compact size and stored when not in use.

YARIS CROSS DELIVERS A HYBRID FIRST FOR SMALL SUVS

With the launch of the all-new Yaris Cross, Toyota has become the only carmaker to offer the performance and environmental benefits of a hybrid system in the light SUV class, further cementing its leadership in delivering dynamic, fuel-efficient products that customers demand.

The hybrid system is available in both two-wheel drive (2WD) and electric all-wheel drive (AWD) variants in all three grades, to deliver the broadest choice for those who want to take advantage of the city-friendly proportions and country-roving versatility of the Yaris Cross.

Complementing the six-model Yaris Cross Hybrid range are GX, GXL and Urban two-wheel drive (2WD) variants, powered by a new 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that drives the front wheels through a smooth and efficient continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The new hybrid system is shared with the Yaris hatch and in 2WD models, combines a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a pair of electric motor generators to produce a maximum combined output of 85kW.

At the same time, it uses just 3.8 litres of petrol per 100km1 on the official combined cycle test and produces low CO2 emissions of only 86g/km2.

The new hybrid system for Yaris has been designed to be lightweight, compact and efficient.

It combines a 67kW/120Nm in-line three-cylinder petrol engine with a 59kW/141Nm drivetrain motor generator and second power generator to deliver seamless shifts in drive torque to maximise performance and efficiency.

The Atkinson Cycle petrol engine uses a number of advanced technologies including electric variable valve timing (VVT-iE) on the intake, port injection with 10-hole injectors, a high 14:1 compression ratio, and a compact integrated power control unit mounted directly above the transaxle to deliver the low fuel consumption and compact packaging.

The hybrid system drives the front wheels through a CVT that offers Eco, Normal, Power and EV modes - the latter enabling near silent, zero emission driving for short distances - that draw power from a 4.3Ahr lithium ion battery.

Yaris Cross Hybrid AWD models add a third electric motor generator to the rear axle that generates a maximum output of 3.9kW and peak torque of 52Nm to enable AWD traction in slippery conditions.

Peak power and torque outputs remain the same as for the 2WD Yaris Cross Hybrid models with a maximum 85kW, with a marginal increase in fuel consumption to 4.0l/100km1 on the combined cycle test and corresponding CO2 emissions of 90g/km2.

The electric AWD system in the Yaris Cross automatically directs driving torque to the rear wheels when needed, operating in a range of between 100 per cent drive to the front wheels and up to 40 per cent to the front and 60 percent to the rear.

Like the RAV4 Hybrid AWD models, the Yaris Cross Hybrid AWD also features a Trail mode button to further improve traction in off-tarmac environments.

In this mode, if the system detects wheel slippage, it automatically applies braking force to the slipping or freely rotating wheel, enabling the drive torque to be directed to the grounded wheels or those with the most traction.

In addition to the Yaris Cross Hybrid variants, Toyota is also offering customers a front-wheel drive petrol version that uses the same new three-cylinder Dynamic Force engine found in the Yaris hatch.

With 1.5-litre capacity, the new engine generates a maximum power of 88kW at 6600rpm and peak torque of 145Nm from 4800rpm to 5200rpm.

Through the application of six-hole direct injection, a high 13.9:1 compression ratio, intelligent variable valve timing with an expanded outlet on the intake, and high-speed combustion technology, the engine is very efficient with a combined cycle fuel consumption of 5.4l/100km1 and CO2 emissions of 124g/km2.

The petrol engine is mated to a smooth and responsive Direct Shift CVT with a 10-speed manual sequential shifting function activated by either the shift lever or paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The CVT also features a mechanical first gear to deliver strong off the line acceleration and a Power mode that adjusts engine and CVT control to deliver a more spirited driving experience when desired.

YARIS CROSS OFFERS DYNAMIC DRIVING, SUPERB COMFORT AND CLASS-LEADING SAFETY FEATURES

Whether making a cross-town dash or tackling country B-roads for a weekend getaway, the all-new Yaris Cross delivers impressive handling, ride comfort and high levels of safety.

At the heart of its dynamic driving characteristics is the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform it shares with the Yaris hatch.

But as a larger, more flexible SUV, the Yaris Cross features a 10mm longer wheelbase that measures 2560mm and front and rear tracks have been increased by between 35mm and 45mm to provide a broad, stable platform for all driving conditions.

GX and GXL models share the same front track of 1525mm, with the Urban grade slightly narrower at 1515mm, due to its larger 18-inch alloy wheels.

Rear track measurements are the same for 2WD models with the independent suspension of the AWD models resulting in a slightly narrower rear track of 1520mm for the GX/GXL and 1510mm for the Urban AWD.

As an SUV, the Yaris Cross also sits higher than its hatch sibling with ground clearance increased by 20mm to 170mm to provide better visibility from a higher ride height and improved clearance for off-tarmac conditions.

To ensure the optimum balance of confident handling and ride comfort, all models feature a rigid, yet lightweight, MacPherson strut front suspension with the coil springs and stabilizer bar tuned for maximum stability and to reduce cornering body roll.

Two-wheel drive models share a torsion beam rear suspension to provide high levels of comfort, stability and maximum luggage capacity, that has been tuned to ensure low levels of noise, vibration and harshness.

To cope with the more rigorous intended use and accommodate the AWD system, AWD variants use a lightweight 2-link suspension to deliver superb control, responsiveness and comfort on all road surfaces.

The steering system features a rack and pinion configuration with electric power assistance to deliver direct control and a quality feel.

A small diameter three-spoke steering wheel - with fingertip controls for audio, phone, cruise control and driver assistance functions - allows just 2.65 turns lock to lock for responsive control.

Effective braking performance is provided by ventilated front and solid rear disc brakes with 283mm discs on the front and 265mm diameter discs on the rear with AWD models using larger 281mm rear discs.

The advanced anti-lock braking system features an array of electronic assistance to ensure optimum control of the Yaris Cross at all times under all conditions.

These include Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control with steering assistance, Traction Control, Active Cornering Assist, Hill-start Assist, Secondary Collision Brake and Cross-Wind Assist to help reduce lane departure during sudden wind gusts.

Yaris Cross AWD versions also feature Downhill Assist Control to ensure steeper grades in low traction conditions can be navigated in safety.

The sophisticated braking system is just one part of the very high level of driver assistance offered by the Yaris Cross with a full suite of Toyota Safety Sense1 features standard across the entire range.

Headlining these is the latest generation autonomous emergency braking Pre-Collision System (PCS) that offers a range of assistance from visual and audible warnings to full autonomous emergency braking to help avoid potential collisions.

Able to detect vehicles, pedestrians day or night and cyclists in daylight, the system also features Emergency Steering Assist to complement the braking and warning functions.

The PCS system now also features Intersection Turn Assist that, during daylight, can detect oncoming cars when turning right at an intersection and pedestrians crossing the street when turning right or left.

In addition to the PCS, the Yaris Cross incorporates a range of other driver assistance features including adaptive Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Trace Assist and Lane Departure Alert with steering assistance to help ensure the vehicle doesn't deviate from its lane, and Auto High Beam for optimum night-time visibility.

To help drivers comply with speed limits, the Road Sign Assist system displays speed limit signs on the MID and will sound an alarm if the driver exceeds the speed limit.

A rear view camera with guide lines is also standard to provide the driver with increased awareness of their surroundings when parking or reversing.

The mid-range GXL and top-of-the-range Urban grades also gain Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, a panoramic view monitor, and front and rear parking sensors.

During low-speed parking manoeuvres, the parking support brake (PKSB) safety feature provides an audible warning or, if necessary, automatic braking, if the system detects static objects around the vehicle or moving objects behind it.

A Head-up Display is also standard on Urban variants to provide important information to the driver ensuring they never need take their eyes off the road.

Passive safety features standard in Yaris Cross ensure it offers the highest levels of occupant safety and include eight airbags with first-in-class front centre airbags to help reduce potential impact between the front passenger and driver.

The new Yaris Cross also features Toyota Connected Services2 which employs a Data Communication Module (DCM) that is able to automatically generate an SOS emergency call3 to a 24/7 Toyota Emergency Call Centre and relay the location of the vehicle in the event of a collision that requires intervention, or if an airbag deploys.

The driver can also request emergency assistance via an SOS button4 on the overhead console and if the vehicle is reported stolen, Toyota Connected Services can assist authorities to help track the vehicle's location via the Stolen Vehicle Tracking (SVT) service5.

YARIS CROSS BUILDS ON TOYOTA'S SUV HERITAGE

All-new Yaris Cross combines Toyota's small-car expertise and rich SUV heritage to set the standard in its segment for sophisticated technology, performance and exceptional safety.

Yet the essential qualities of Yaris Cross have their roots in Toyota's original RAV4 - a pioneering vehicle that laid the foundation for what is now Australia's and the world's best-selling SUV.

Launched here in three-door guise in 1994, the first-generation RAV4 was regarded as a breakthrough model - a more recreational vehicle than the traditional 4x4.

It was user-friendly, versatile and dynamic - a vehicle that was equally at home on city streets or heading into the great outdoors.

Along with the five-door model released a year later, the original RAV4 revealed Toyota's ground-breaking approach to construction, ride and handling, packaging and performance.

Today, a quarter of a century later, these attributes continue to influence today's lifestyle SUVs, including Yaris Cross.

Benchmark features from the first five-door RAV4 are evident in today's Yaris Cross, including the compact, sporty styling with short overhangs - ensuring it is agile in the city while being rugged enough for more challenging terrain.

Yaris Cross also benefits by adopting the same platform as the new Yaris hatch, resulting in dynamic and secure handling due to high body rigidity, a well-balanced chassis and a low centre of gravity.

The turning circle is tighter for Yaris Cross and it also has wider tracks, which can offer handling benefits as well as a smoother ride and better traction.

Clever packaging is another common feature, although Yaris Cross is slightly larger in key areas, which results in an even roomier cabin. The wheelbase is 150mm longer, overall length is greater by 55mm and width has been extended by 70mm.

While Yaris Cross has a lower roof height, the new platform enables a low seating position to maintain good head clearance.

A permanent, mechanical all-wheel-drive system was standard on the first RAV4. Yaris Cross offers a compact, electric system that works in tandem with downhill shift control to provide extra grip when needed.

Performance and efficiency were hallmarks of the original RAV4's multi-valve four-cylinder petrol engine. Yaris Cross offers powerful 1.5-litre multi-valve powertrains with impressive fuel consumption and emissions - particularly with its responsive and efficient fourth-generation hybrid system.

Today, RAV4 is a much larger vehicle, competing in the medium SUV segment, with more than 360,000 local sales to its name.

Like Yaris Cross, the latest RAV4 has reaped the benefits of a Toyota New Global Architecture platform and hybrid-electric power.
