Cody Nikola Latkovski - aka Nik_Makozi - has beaten 514 Australian racers to finish at the top of the 2020 GR Supra GT Cup Australian Leaderboard after the season finale saw more than 2400 GR Supras line up on the Bathurst grid from across the globe.
After seven rounds of intense online competition set at some of the world's most iconic racetracks, Nik_Makozi was joined by Daniel Holland - aka MetalGear9493 - and Emily Jones - Emreeree - on the podium in second and third places on the Australian leaderboard.
Now in its second year, the GR Supra GT Cup is a global one-make series that is played through Gran Turismo Sport®
with races at circuits including Mount Panorama (Australia), Fuji Speedway (Japan), Laguna Seca (US), Circuit de La Sarthe at Le Mans (France) and Germany's epic Nurburgring.
Cody Nikola finished with a total of 1229 points for the season that put him into the top 20 globally from nearly 27,000 drivers across all seven rounds, with Daniel wrapping his season with 1193 points and Emily finishing the 2020 GR Supra GT Cup on 1095 points.
Toyota Australia Chief Marketing Officer John Pappas congratulated the three drivers on their outstanding performance over the course of the season, with each taking home prize packs worth up to $500.
"With COVID-19 forcing the cancellation or postponement of live racing across the globe, Toyota is proud to be able to offer an exciting virtual option through the GR Supra GT Cup that saw thousands of virtual race drivers from across the globe connect and compete on some of the world's best race circuits," Mr Pappas said.
"Racing is at the heart of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing brand, and we are deeply immersed in actively supporting motorsport around the world, whether that is live racing through our championship-winning WRC team or our own TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia 86 Series here in Australia or in the ever-growing world of e-Sports.
"Gaming is no longer an outsider pursuit but well and truly part of mainstream culture and it's great to see some of the extraordinary online racing talent we have here in Australia up there with the best in the world.
"Toyota congratulates Cody Nikola, Daniel and Emily on their local podium finish and we look forward to seeing where their racing talent takes them," he said.
While serious gamers headed the top of the local leaderboard, the GR Supra GT Cup also gave some of our local racing identities the opportunity to transfer their on-track skills to the virtual world with Australian Rally Champion Harry Bates and his brother Lewis and TGRA 86 Series racer Luke King, all taking on the challenge.
