TFS SPONSORS THREDBO SKI PATROL

Toyota Financial Services has boosted the rescue efforts of Thredbo Ski Patrol Association by donating a new snowmobile.

The 600cc Polaris snowmobile will be used throughout Thredbo resort by ski patrollers during the winter ski season.

“Toyota Financial Services’ donation represents a significant financial contribution to our ski patrol, which is important if we are to maintain the highest safety and rescue standards,” said the President of the Thredbo Ski Patrol Association, Nigel Oliver.

“The cost of providing our first aid service and complying with the relevant legislative and statutory requirements is going up all the time, so this donation has done a great deal to ease the financial burden,” he said.

Thredbo Ski Patrol Association is a community-based volunteer organisation that was established in 1958. It operates a fleet of four snowmobiles out of the resort, using them to check the condition of ski runs each morning for safety before the public has access.

Throughout the day the snowmobiles enable the Patrol to provide rapid response and permit ski patrollers to travel long distances very quickly.

The Patrol’s snowmobiles can also be used as support for search and rescue missions co-ordinated by the New South Police and other rescue organisations.

The mountain terrain and sub-zero temperatures take their toll on the snowmobiles, which must be replaced regularly to ensure the best and most reliable service can be provided.

“Snow mobiles are essential for covering the resort’s many kilometres of runs and this donation by Toyota Financial Services will directly assist in saving lives,” said Nigel Oliver.

“The ski patrol’s volunteers are like the surf life-savers of the snow, and just as deserving of our admiration,” said Toyota Financial Services Managing Director, Ross Springer.

Over the decades the Patrol has provided assistance to many skiers, boarders and visitors to the resort for injuries ranging from very minor incidents through to life threatening emergencies.

The Patrol currently has over 70 active volunteer members, who are trained in advanced emergency first aid, accident prevention, snow safety and search and rescue techniques.
